Specialized treatment for children with sensory motor feeding and swallowing challenges
Using a team approach we help kids learn to eat a variety of nutritional, age appropriate foods necessary for growth, development and learning. The child's feeding needs are addressed according to "stages" of development with partnerships between therapists who specialize in feeding treatment and allied medical practitioners (when indicated). Feeding interventions may include:
- Self feeding
- Oral feeding/swallowing skills
- Food texture/taste progression
- Oral awareness/saliva control
- Bottle to cup transitions
- Non-oral to oral feeding transitions
- Positive mealtime experiences
Our clinical staff thoroughly assess each child and create treatment plans when needed. Treatment plans are tailored to meet the needs of both the child and the family, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team as appropriate. They are based on principles in child and neurodevelopment and evidence-based practice.
