My child struggles at mealtime. Can we help?
Your child may benefit from feeding services if he/she:
- Is exhibiting poor weight gain
- Is drinking from a baby bottle after 15-18 months
- Is dependent upon a sippie cup after age 2
- Is dependent on non-oral feedings
- Has a medical history of reflux, aspiration pneumonia, chronic chest congestion, chronic constipation or diarrhea, or food allergies
- Coughs, chokes or gags while eating
- Is not eating foods typically eaten by kids their age
- Is having difficulty transitioning to different food textures
- Is tiring during the meal and working hard to eat
- Is having difficulty with chewing, pocketing and/or stuffing food in the mouth
- Is a picky eater with a limited variety of food choices
- Is stuck on specific food tastes, temperature, color or brands or is insisting that food be presented in a certain manner
- Is sensitive to the smell of food and/or having difficulty tolerating sounds while eating or in noisy feeding environments
- Is having difficulty self-feeding, toothbrushing and/or face washing
- Is experiencing power struggles or conflicts with parents/care providers at mealtimes
