Intensive Summer Literacy Program
Helping children experience the joy of literacy!
The Hearing & Speech Institutes Intensive Summer Literacy Program is designed for children with speech, language and/or learning disorders who are struggling with literacy and related skills.
- Research shows that explicit, intensive and supportive intervention is most effective for lasting, functional gains in literacy and related skills.
- Literacy is a language-based skill. Speech-language pathologists have the expertise necessary to diagnose and treat literacy delays and disorders.
- Given the proper instruction, and early literacy intervention, children who have not benefited from traditional teaching methods can become competent readers.
- Children must be compentent readers by third grade when the emphasis changes from "learning to read" to "reading to learn."
The Intensive Summer Literacy Program is a fun small group intervention to build literacy skills in children with language and/or learning disorders. We use motivating activities and reward children for their hard work and their success. This program is great for children who learn well in supported group settings.
