Elon Ellis, known as "Mr. Golf" in Portland and beyond, served on the Board of Directors of the Institute for many years. He was passionate about the Institute's programs and was particularly dedicated to providing support for children needing services from us.
To this end, Elon constructed and sold or auctioned more than thirty of his signature wooden rocking horses, donating the proceeds to the Institute. Because of Elon's strong desire to support the children we serve, those of us on the Board of the Institute are dedicating the proceeds from the golf tournament to supporting children who need the Institute's services, but cannot afford them.
The number of children needing help with language delays or disorders, autism, or hearing loss and the behavioral issues that accompany them is growing. The Institute is now serving over 400 children per week, 25% of who are children who need financial assistance. And, just as the numbers are increasing, our scholarship funds to support them are dwindling, making your support of the Elon Ellis Memorial Golf Tournament all the more urgent.
We've organized a great tournament this year, hosted by the Portland Golf Club and Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club. I urge you to join us, by playing yourself or putting together a team. I trust you will look over the information enclosed in the registration packet and sign up today. However, if for some reason you can't play in the tournament, please contribute to this wonderful cause. Donations can be done by clicking Here Register for the tournament by filling out the online form and mailing or faxing it to the Institute Development Department at 503 228 4248 or Hearing & Speech Institute, 1675 SW Marlow Avenue, Suite 200, Portland, OR, 97225.
